UPS Gets in the Game!

Thirty-five UPS team members sporting brown t-shirts  recently got in the game by joining girls and their families at a Saturday Day of Play at Seward Park. The volunteers enthusiastically welcomed participants with a cheer tunnel pumping up the girls and setting the stage for a day filled with football, soccer, teambuilding, and healthy cooking activities.

Saturday Days of Play celebrate the end of an afterschool season at Girls in the Game. Girls and their families are invited to participate in a day focused on sports and reviewing health and leadership topics they learned about during the season. Saturday Days of Play bring girls together from different areas of the city and provide participants and their families with a fun and productive program!

UPS volunteers supported girls in soccer and football drills and cheered them on as they played, a fun interactive game in which particpants answer questions on health topics or demonstrate certain sports positions. Volunteers also helped the Junior League volunteers who led Kids in the Kitchen, where girls get hands-on experience preparing healthy snacks and meals. Overall, UPS volunteers had a great experience, reporting  their favorite parts of the day included “seeing happy faces” and “watching the girls work together”.

The UPS volunteers made a significant impact on the morning and girls reported having a fun time with the extra coaches. The Saturday Day of Play was the first step in a UPS/Girls in the Game partnership. Girls in the Game is excited for UPS volunteers to guest coach at future programs. Thank you for getting in the game, UPS!
