Become a Grown-Up in the Game!

Girls in the Game helps more than 3,000 girls each year and we couldn't do it without the dedication and support of our many volunteers. This year volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of time, talent, and compassion to the girls and young women in our programs. From weekly, monthly, or yearly commitments, girls and young women are benefiting from spending time with caring, positive male and female adult role models  Regardless of your experience and background, there are many ways to get involved. Whether you want to come out for a day or help out weekly, Girls in the Game welcomes your time and energy.

Just a few highlights this year:
  • Susan, a dedicated volunteer, coaches in one of our weekly after school sites in North Lawndale.
  • Four male teammates from a competitive volleyball league led skills and drills for our teens and then learned a dance from the girls.
  • Quarles & Brady, a local law firm, is hosting an end of the year party for our Union Park after school program.
  • PepsiCo sends volunteers each week to help train our girls triathlon team.
  • Tina organized a sports equipment drive, supplying us with tennis rackets and more.
Requirements:
  • Volunteers must be 18 or older.
  • Volunteers must agree to submit to a background check.
  • Volunteers must be trained by Girls in the Game.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Girls in the Game After-School
Become a one-time guest coach or a weekly assistant at one of our after school elementary sites. Since After School is our largest program, volunteers can serve a variety of functions including but not limited to:
  • Welcoming girls to programming upon arrival
  • Taking attendance and passing out name tags
  • Demonstrating activities
  • Assisting with prep work by setting up equipment
  • Being a positive role model

Tutor/Homework Help
Are you good at math?  Science?  English?  As our most intensive program operating three days a week, the McGuane Park After School program depends on volunteers to assist with homework help and serve as mentors for the girls.

Saturday Days of Play
Assist at one of our Saturday field trips that are available to all the girls in our After School Program, which bring together girls from different sites. Field trips vary in location and time; one Saturday might be a volleyball clinic, and the next might be a trip to a Chicago Sky game.

Teen Ambassadors
Teen Ambassadors identify prominent women with interesting careers, and set up interviews to discuss health, leadership and important issues. Volunteers are needed to chaperone events, and Girls in the Game is also looking for professional women, either in groups or as individuals, to interview in the Women Leaders Interview Program.

GameDays: One-Day Events

Put your sports, health or leadership skills to good use during a Game Day event by leading activities for one of the day’s topics or playing alongside the girls. We always need help guiding participants through the rotations and maintaining a fun, safe and educational environment.

S
ports and Leadership Summer Camp
Lead a sports or health workshop during summer camp.Or just come out to help coach during a day of camp by prepping for activities, assisting in demonstrations or engaging hesitant participants. No matter your comfort level with sports, we have the perfect role for you.

Special Events

Girls in the Game relies on our special events to raise awareness and funds each year. We love having new energy and creative ideas to help make our events a success. Also, we always need volunteers to assist in running events.

Technical Support
Are you a technology whiz who could contribute to the efficiency and success of Girls in the Game operations? If so, we could use your help to keep our systems in tip-top shape.
