Girls in the Game ensures that staff members reflect the girls enrolled in our programs. The staff is comprised of full-time professionals, part-time employees, and interns from diverse experiences and backgrounds, working together to grow the organization.

Amy Skeen Girls in the Game


Amy Skeen, MSW, LCSW, President/CEO, holds her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Amy has fifteen years of experience in nonprofit program operations, specifically working with youth and families. She earned a Type 73 certificate that qualifies her to provide social work services to children with special needs in a school setting. Amy has received numerous awards for her leadership including One of Chicago’s Top Women Making a Difference for Girls, (Women Employed 2008).

Sandi Caldrone Girls in the Game

 Sandi Caldrone, Business Director, holds her Masters Degree in Anthropology and Women’s Studies from Northern Illinois University. Sandi is personally committed to advancing the health and well-being of women and girls, and has five years’ experience leading women’s activist organizations. Prior to joining the Girls in the Game team, Sandi worked as a teaching assistant at the university level for three years and taught English in Japan.

Meghan Morgan Girls in the Game

Meghan Morgan, Development Director, earned her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Notre Dame. After graduating, she spent a year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, which solidified her desire to commit herself to working in the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining Girls in the Game, she worked as the Development Manager for the Elks National Foundation.


Allison Liefer, Programs Director, holds a BS in Communications from Northwestern University and an MFA from the University of Michigan. Before joining Girls in the Game, Allison served as Director of National Operations for Common Threads, and oversaw Community Initiatives at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. An enthusiastic runner and vegetable cook, Allison is committed to helping others discover their own health and strength.


Vanessa Mizel, Camps and Clinics Manager, earned her Bachelors Degree in Communications and Media from DePaul University. Before joining Girls in the Game, she worked in the health fitness industry for six years in sales and management and coached high school basketball. Through Vanessa’s involvement in sports growing up, she knows the opportunity to be part of a team taught her valuable lessons and helped her gain the confidence and leadership skills that shaped the person who she is today. She enjoys the opportunity to give back to the community and to share the value sports has imparted on her by working with Girls in the Game.

Dawn Kobel, Development Manager, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Involved in a variety of sports since childhood, Dawn always appreciated what dedication and teamwork can bring to someone's life. Prior to joining Girls in the Game, Dawn worked as a Development Representative for the American Cancer Society.


Jenny Flowers, Teen Programs Manager, received her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in History and American Culture Studies from Washington University in St. Louis and her Masters in Education from Fontbonne University. Before coming to Girls in the Game, Jenny worked at the Museum of Science and Industry developing curriculum and training youth workers to lead science workshops. As an educator and avid softball player, Jenny is dedicated to providing meaningful opportunities for girls and believes all girls should have access to sports education and quality after school programs.



Kristi Skala, MS, Training and Evaluation Manager, holds her Masters in School and College Health Programs from Indiana University. Kristi is passionate about health education for youth, especially knowing the impact sports and living a healthy lifestyle had on her growing up. Upon graduating from her Master’s program she became the Curriculum Developer for the Physical Education Walk Across Illinois School Fitness Program.




Courtney Rowe, Development Coordinator, is in the process of completing her Masters Degree in Leadership and Policy Studies from DePaul University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is passionate about the empowerment and protection of women and girls at the international, national and local levels. Growing up a competitive equestrian, Courtney understands the importance of connecting with mentors and peers through sports. Prior to joining Girls in the Game, Courtney worked on Department of State grant-funded projects in Iraq with DePaul University's International Human Rights Law Institute (IHRLI).


Jenna Green Azab, Development Coordinator, earned her Bachelors Degree in English and Public Relations from Marquette University and her Masters Degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to joining Girls in the Game, Jenna taught English at the university level and worked in nonprofit communications. The time she spent competitive swimming and being active growing up helped her make friends, build confidence and live a healthy lifestyle today. Jenna is passionate about providing similar opportunities for girls.


Luveta Hill, Training and Evaluation Specialist, earned her Bachelors Degree in Journalism & Mass Communication and Health & Sports Studies with an emphasis in Health Promotion from The University of Iowa. She worked with youth sports, journalism and science programs before coming to Girls in the Game. Luveta believes maintaining a healthy lifestyle that incorporates smart eating and staying physically active can be taught to young girls who will then share those positive messages with friends and family, carrying on a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.


Tara Smith, After School Program Specialist, earned her Bachelors degree in Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University. She is passionate about health and fitness and the many ways that sports can transform girls into confident, healthy and successful women. Before joining Girls in the Game, Tara was a summer swim coach for four years. An Amate House volunteer, she is excited to be working with Girls in the Chicago area.

 

 Sofia Commito,Camps and Clinics Specialist, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Bard College. Growing up, Sofia played tennis, and continued to do so for all four years of college. She was the captain of the team for her junior and senior year. Her time playing tennis taught her the important connection between a healthy body and a healthy mind. A Lutheran Volunteer Corps member, she is excited to work and share experiences with girls in the Chicago area.


Melissa Anderson, Business Specialist, is a 2011 graduate from Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Cultural Studies. She's been involved in dance programs and tennis since age eight, maintains an active lifestyle by doing Tai Chi and yoga after work, and truly believes these activities help foster a sense of balance within herself. Melissa is also a member of Public Allies and is excited about incorporating ideas from their program to ensure the good health of the girls and the organization at large.
  Kirsten Iverson, After School Specialist, holds her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Missouri with a minor in Spanish. She participated in gymnastics, tennis and track in High School. Before joining Girls in the Game, Kirsten coached gymnastics and interned at the Chicago Children's Museum. Kirsten loves working with Girls in the Game participants and helping bring our their amazing potential.
