How the Community is Getting in the Game!
June- August 2008Thank you to Bernard Lyles, Executive Director of Tri-Masters Sports Initiative Program, for generously outfitting our Girls' Triathlon team with new bathing suits for the August 2nd, 2008 South Shore Youth Triathlon!
July 30th, 2008, the Chicago Sky
came out to the Girls in the Game Summer Camp to teach our campers some
basketball skills & drills. They also had a Q & A session with
team members Dominique Canty and Cathy Joens,
and each girl received special prizes! There was also an appearence by
the Sky Guy who shot a few rounds with the girls. Thank you Chicago Sky!
We would like to give The Blackhawk Charities a special thank you for coming out to Girls in the Game to teach our girls hockey! Not only did they generously donate their time and talent--but they gave away jerseys to all of our girls! Check out the slide show!
Goldman Sachs Presents the 5th Annual GIG Olympics
Goldman Sachs helps
to get Girls in the Game in the Olympic spirit every year! Girls from all of the Girls in the Game elementary
after school programs joined 35 Goldman Sachs volunteers and united for
the GIG Olympics, complete with opening and closing ceremonies, awards
and events.
As
13 schools represented different countries, the GIG girls participated
in many events including track and field activities, jump rope,
leadership games and a nutrition relay race and trivia game. A special
thanks goes to Goldman Sachs for providing both funding and
enthusiastic volunteers for the day's activities.
Girls in the Game would like to share a special thank you to Nike,
Chicago's Chatham Nike Factory Store (8510 S. Cottage Grove Ave.), Candice
Dupree, and the Chicago Sky for partnering with Girls in the Game. Candice Dupree came out to the Nike Factory Store for an interactive Q&A session, autographs, contests, and the Nike Factory Store let each girl pick out a shirt of their very own from the store for Candice to sign.
